How to find
Calmac ferries to Islay leave from Kennacraig on the Kintyre peninsula and skirt Jura on their way to either Port Askaig or Port Ellen, being convenient for Ellister Lodge. Always book early as demand can be high. For the latest timetable, see: www.calmac.co.uk
The drive from Glasgow usually takes about two and a half hours, passing through Inveraray. Coaches run from Glasgow to Kennacraig, for foot passengers. See: www.citylink.co.uk
Flybe operate daily flights from Glasgow; for most of the year there are morning and evening flights. See www.flybe.com for timetables. Car hire is available from Islay airport.
Ellister Lodge lies south of Port Charlotte, with all its restaurants and bars, often with live music, its museums, pier, shop, Post Office, ATM and petrol station. Just north of there is Bruichladdich, home to one of Islay’s many celebrated distilleries.
To the south of us lies Portnahaven, while over to the West are several of Islay’s best beaches, facing the wild Atlantic. The island’s capital, Bowmore, is an easy drive.
